Sheik Geek: Nerdy Subtleties for the Professional Chicka

For many game-inclined, professional ladies out there, the idea or hope of ever visually expressing our geekism during office hours may seem bleak, even impossible. There aren't many cubicle grid managers that necessarily support the sporting of a Halo tee, and the fact that most office spaces have 'attire etiquette' regulations could squash even the slightest thought of self-expression.

Fear not! For it is possible to win the war against corporate, sheep-herding conglomeration!

Round One

Get Ready!

FIGHT!

Jewelry is a great, subtle way to not only liven up your outfit, but flaunt your nerd without getting loud about it. This particular necklace was found on Etsy, which is a great resource if you're seeking out this kind of fashion find, and can sometimes act as a one stop shop for all of your nerdy attire needs. Be sure to check it out if you haven't yet.

Round Two!

Nail Art! This is a trend that takes some tact and handiwork. Nails are a constant presence, so if they're too intense, it'll show. Be sure to decide on a design that isn't too flashy. The above photo is a great example of keeping it simple, yet lightly noticeable. If you're going to go with a bright color, such as the green shown here, be sure to minimize your usage.

It's important to keep in mind that our goal here is subtlety (since we are attempting to remain semi-professional here).

Final Round!

The statement handbag. No one can tell you to stop using your purse, which makes this fashion accessory an essential weapon of nerd force against the dark side! Above is a beautiful and very sheik example, once again discovered on Etsy. The best part about these type of finds? They are usually unique! Huzzah!

Bonus Round!

Risk Taker: Shake up the monotony of your desk space with a pop of console culture! Paperweights, picture frames, computer buddies..

Woot.com will sometimes feature USB friends. You may remember this:

These desk decors are mild risk-takers, so be prepared for a one-on-one battle of the interests if your office doesn't take kindly to fun! :)
